Just two years later, it was granted the designation of "Catedral Primada," signifying its role as the principal cathedral of the first diocese in the former Kingdom of Spain. Although the current Gothic structure's construction commenced in 1227 under Archbishop Don Rodrigo Jiménez de Rada and during the reign of Fernando III the Saint, its historical significance has endured over the centuries.
